Novice seeks your experience?

I would like to advertise our small women community social club on the internet. I am not sure the best way forward, so your advice will be much appreciated.
We are not a profit making organisation it is to let other families who are far from home aware of the clubs and activities available.
This is what I would like to make a vailable;
Information of activities, preferably with a calendar.
Ability for members to sign up for activities.
Payment for activities (usually a nominal ammount to cover transport and refreshments).
e-mail address.
As this is very new - I would welcome advice. Thanks to all.

Hi...

You can do that on a lot of free sites, like "myspace.com".

OR you can open a community group on "yahoo.com".

Both are free and very reliable. For any further advise do not hesitate to contact me. It is a great what you are planning on doing.

Peace out,
LFI.

If you want to keep the website an information based tool then you could get by with using a free web based utility such as GeoCities on yahoo. However, if you want to use more advanced features such as sharing calanders and making payments through the website then this will be better served by using a more sophisticated web hosting service and using a web developer.

If you are not familiar with web development or hosting I would recommend that you try to locate a local web development firm that could assist you. Make sure to get several estimates as rates will vary among developers. Also, keep in mind that there are low cost web hosting services such as those found on yahoo and other internet search engines. So, make sure to review pricing - and don't assume that you have to use the provider that your web developer recommends. If they try to bundle the development of the web site with the web hosting chances are they are making money on both ends which is not really necessary. The amount of what you can do yourself will depend on your computer literacy. I would say that a typical web site development should not run more than $500 for your intended purpose. Web hosting will run between $12-$20 per month.
