I asked a few people and most of them never thought about it. One Elvis fan I asked believes he was actually singing about his dog. For some reason the song always struck me as symbolic.

i always thought it was symbolic of either a guy who hounded women, or someone who was "crying" all the time, like a whiny girl. i never realized it might actually just be about a daog. i geuss we're over thinkers huh?
