-Ice caps melting and subsequent rise in sea levels
-More extreme climates and effects thereoff, including tornadoes, tsunamis and the like.
-Extinction of plants and animal species, and pressure on ecosystems as they strive to adapt to rapidely changing conditions.
-Economic costs as humans must also adapt to all these changes.

It's certainly one of the top challenges of our times, if not the single most pressing problem.

Weird. I just watched An Inconvenient Truth today. Droughts, bad floods, hurricanes. The ice caps will melt and flood the land, displacing millions of people who live in the flood area. The cold freshwater from the melting ice will/could disrupt the ocean's currents, causing another ice age. Polar bears will drown. Pretty bad. Watch the movie--interesting and very informative.

Here's one I like: It's warm enough to be raining in the Midwest of the US at the end of December. Heh.

Research it, it's really interesting - although rather frightening.

Basically it's a scientific theory (well founded) that we have polluted our planet to the point of damaging the protective ozone layer which is now allowing too much heat into the atmosphere...the heat is melting the polar ice caps and will eventually cause massive flooding of over 60% of the present-day dry land masses.

So what it means, among other things, is that we will loose 60% of our land...and the ability to produce enough food to survive as a species.
