let's see if i can remember this from school last year. it has something to do with pressure, oh yeah something about being more gases up there in the ozone layer and what not, not much room for the air to move around and heat up. and even though it would be closer to the sun, you have to think, outer space is cold, freezing actually! the earth has a core and climate that causes changes in temperature. so the closer to earth and its core the warmer, though after you get close enough to the sun, im sure you would feel it.

im new to this and if im wrong, then sorry. in only a young teen, so gimme a break, kk.

It's also much closer to space, which is freezing. There's less insulation - which is why a lot of high altitude places can be really hot (80ish, say) during the day and then in the 20s that night.

it is not warmer because you get closer to the sun because your a million miles a way 1000 ft is not going to increase the temputure by much
it gets colder because the air is thiner and cold air travels much better in thin air then heavy air also because of the greenhouse affect

I don't know the whole answer but I think I have part of it.

Pressure causes heat, and lower altitudes have higher atmospheric pressures.

At higher altitudes, pressure is lower. PV=nRT

Also, there are less molecules at high altitude, so little for the IR radiation to warm.

by nature or creation it is a efect fo sun rays , that they do not heat up the medium above the earths surface so it is cooler or chiller above sun above a particualr level
