There is a lot of wishful thinking going on here with some of these answers.

The US dominates the world for a number of reasons, and India will not share that power with us (for the same reasons) for a very long time:

1) Our economy is the largest in the world and is still growing at a good pace.

2) Our economy over the past 75 years has allowed us to develop an enourmous amount of stored wealth.

3) We have faired far better than any other industrialized country in the last 100 years because our stored wealth has not been wantonly destroyed in wars. The last war on US soil was our civil war 150 years ago.

4) Pure market economies generate a higher productivity than socialist, caste and structured systems.

5) Our military is one, two or three full generations in technology ahead of every other country on the planet (except our allies). Few countries in the world have militaries that fight in joint multinational theaters as ours does, which includes dimensions that most commanders aren't trained to understand.

6) India has nuclear weapons but has not developed anything of a true nuclear deterrant as the US has. India can deter Pakistan or Iran but not the entire world simultaneously.

7) No other country has developed a network of allies and treaties like the US and allies have, such as NATO and NORAD, nor does any other country have the complex defensive network that the US has in its combined forces.

8) All countries have a varying degree of vulnerability in their natural resources. For example, Japan has to import more than 99% of it's oil and natural gas. That's quite a disadvantage for an industrialized society. The US has very few vulnerabilities because of our resources and productivity.

9) This one is subjective, based on my own observation. No other country on earth is loved, admired, sought after and immitated like the US. The media would love to have everyone believe that the whole world hates the US. I've been in dozens of countries and I've never seen it. Not once.

10) The US is coming to control certain key resources that no other country can really compete with, such as language (more than 60 nations worldwide are teaching English in their primary and secondary schools), the internet backbone (the US controls all internet registration), 25% of the world's raw recources, the majority of culture and entertainment (like movies and television), and the majority of charitible donations (the US is the #1 lender as a government and the #1 giver as a population--Japan is a very close second).

All of this spells power, influence, and survivability as a superpower. The world is ours to lose.

Microsoftopia will never become the most super powerful country in the world. Right now that's China and I don't see where they will relinquish that position any time soon, but in fact will solidify their position even more as they continue to underwrite the majority of the American economy.
