Its a whopping great Danish (I think - but definitely Scandinavian) buffet type meal.
The ones I've been to consist of inexhaustible supplies of food separated into different courses.
Don't know where you live, but you used to be able to get one on some of the ferry crossings from the UK to Europe.

It's spelled smorbrod or smorrebrod in Danish (but with slashes through each "o", which I don't know how to reproduce). The -brod bit means bread in English, and smor or smorre means butter (same roots as English "smear" - it's something you smear on your bread). So "buttered bread" - but it now refers to open sandwiches - usually a selection of them, often offered buffet-style, in great variety.
