As others have said they are competing formats. You really don't need to worry, as unless you have a very old DVD burner, it will support both types. DVD+R is generally considered to be the slightly better format. The differences are very technical in how the discs store and format the data.

These 2 are different DVD formats. In fact, they are competing formats. From a consumer point of view, you just need to know that both formats offer a one time recording capability with a capacity of around 4.7GB.
There are DVD players available for reading discs each format. However, there are also hybrid players that can read both formats.

I don't think this question is correct. It should be be DVD+-RW or DVD+-R. Th RW is Read/Write and means that the DVD +-RW is able to be copied upon. The DVD+-R is a DVD Read only and that means that it is only allowed to be read> The DVD+-R has already been copied and can't be copied again.
