Poor attitude and poor application on behalf of their batsmen. They were like a deer in teh headlights, they choked when the match was there for the taking - an all too common problem with Indian cricket!
You can try to blame the coach and the captain - but the bootom line is that this sort of thing has happened with other captains and coaches in charge.
The problem lies deeper in the mindsets in Indian cricket. Greg Chappel tried to come in and change all of that, but was greatly criticised, and has gone into his shell now and we are seeing the results. India should get an Indian coach in because the public scrutinise any non-Indian coach very harshly.

The Indians dug their own grave....first the openers failed to give a solid start.....
then after the dismissal of saurav ganguly, the entire onus was on laxman and tendulkar...and again both the biggies threw away their wickets....
the third one will be the run out of zaheer khan ...as The 8th ,9th and 10th wickets went in quick succession coz karthik was capable of adding 15-30 more runs had he not been run out of partners which cud matter in the end
Thus lack of good partnerships like the one between dravid-ganguly and poor basic applications such as running between the wickets and rotating the strike was what India erred in.
