UPDATE: I've heard the reward is now $25 Million. Same question though.

Mind you, if we arrest the operative, a U.S. reward offer will never be taken seriously ever again. And we'll lose that very useful crime-fighting weapon.

I believe the reward is actually $25 million and the answer is YES! The purpose is to capture Bin Laden and there is no other stipulation for the reward. Do you think Al Queada would embrace the individual after such an act? By spilling the beans on Osama this individual will be looking for a place to hide.

They should get the money and protection from Al-Qaeda afterwards. It would take a serious act of bravery and courage to defect form Al-Qaeda and turn in bin Laden if you were working for him. They are quite a thuggish group as I have heard it, they would probably come after the person with a great deal of force if they turned him in.

The reward is more than 5 mil now I think. But we need not worry about capturing OBL. It is NOT in our interest because we would not know what to do with him. We would further inflame the hatred by killing him or imprisoning him.
Besides, he may well be having coffee at Starbuck's in Crawford, Texas, for all we know!
An active A-Q member turning his boss in and being cooperative with his enemies, would be a turncoat to his pals and a hero to the US. Ain't going to happen.

No. They'll try to arrest him, and they DEFINITELY won't give him the money if they even suspect he's with/used to be Al-Qaeda. The government doesn't want their reward money being used for terror.

I've heard those who turn in these people are heavily scrutinized by the CIA, FBI, NSA, and U.S. military before they even get a dime of it, even if their information DID lead to the capture of a wanted terrorist.

he certainly should. it is unlikely however as he would probably be arrested and Al Qeada is already a wealthy organization so such a person is unlikely to be tempted.
