There are several methods, but silica gel will probably retain the most color. Its a dry granular product, you pour it in a bowl deep enough to cover the flower and put it in the microwave for a few seconds. Or you can leave it out for several days to dry. Just follow the directions on the container. You can find it at any craft store.

btw: Don't use the bowl for food once you've used with the silica gel.

The other method, which is a little cheaper than using silica gel is to use Silver Sand (available from Garden Centres). Put about 6mm of sand in the bottom of a plastic box that is microwave proof. Put the rose or roses well apart. Trickle the sand onto the rose carefully; making sure that the sand gets into the flower. Once the flowers or flowers are covered back fill around until the sand it levelled within the box. Microwave for 50secs or so to increase the temperature of the sand, it is better to do this in stages to check the sand is not too hot. Leave to cool and then stand for a few weeks and then check the results by taking off a small amount of the top sand. If not dried sufficient repack with sand microwave for a few seconds and leave for a few more days.

If you just want to dry them intact, my partner suggests this method......clip the stem 6 inches from the head, strip any remaining leaves, if you have several to dry run a string through the stems and hang upside down in a dry, dark place. Once dry, clip remaining stem and use as needed. My partner has several lovely rose heads arranged in a basket. Note: the heads will still be quite fragile. If you are looking for a more permanent preserving, perhaps try the first answerer's suggestion.

There are four preservation methods: air-drying, moisture transfer, freeze-drying, and coating. All preserve the rose in one form or another and to varying degrees of permanence and retained fragrance.
