How is web search engine work?

How is web search engine work? I made website with firework, flash and dreamweaver. Then upload to www.geocities.com/(my domain), I had input "keywords" and "description" in index.html. But my web can't be searched out even I typed the exact "keywords" wording.

You'll need to submit your site to search engines. Here are the big three.

http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

http://www.google.com/addurl/

http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

You really only need to submit to these three, because almost all of the search engines in existence use Google, Yahoo, or MSN and route the hits through their site anyway.

However, in case there are a few who don't do that, ou can always submit you site to these places.

well, the appearance of your website in the search engine listings depends on whether your site has been indexed by search engines or not.
if your website is new, indexing can take time( sometimes months).
if your website is more than a couple of months old and you have high quality content on it and your website is nowhere in the search, then
you should consider some options such as Publicity of your website, both Online and Offline.
online advertising:
if you send emails regularly then you should add your website name and address at the end of each and every email (through Signatures). join the Forums for discussions, post regularly and in each post, include your website address at the end.
Offline Advertising:
if you have business cards, have yr email and website printed on it.
the other option is to use the Google Publisher tools and Google webmaster tools (links given at the end).
These tools allow Google to know about your website and your ownership.
Here you can check the status of your website (indexed or not) and submit your website for indexing.
First you need to verify that you are the owner of the website py uploading the file provided by google to your root directory.

These tools have helped me a lot.
you can also use Google adsense to make money from your website. by displaying advers given by google on your site.
