I got married at 19 after having been with my boyfriend (now ex husband) for 5 years. We were married for 12 years and if I had to do it all over again I would NOT have married him so young. I don't know if anyone could have talked me out of it at that age, but if you want any advice at all...WAIT! If you love him and he loves you waiting another 4 years won't make a difference except you will grow up more and figure out who you really are.

Although there are many cases where people got married at 19 or so and made it work, I tend to think that 19 is generally too young. With that said, I also think a four year engagement is awfully long. If you are not ready at this point, maybe you ought to postpone the engagement, effectively becoming un-engaged, and then return to it later. Or you can tell your fiance you are not ready but you want to stay engaged and wait. He ought to be willing to do that for you if you are willing to marry him!

Nikki,
Don't let someone else decide this for you. You are worth more than that. If he really cares for you that much then he will wait for you to finish school. I am proud of you!! Make sure that you know exactly what you want to do after you graduate. There are a number of people that graduate and then say "I really don't want to do that for a living". I found very early what I wanted to do and loved my job as long as I was able to work. GOD really blessed my wife and I. Have a great life,aNd Be A SuCcEsS!

If it's true love, he should be willing to wait. I think that most young people rush into marriage and regret it. My younger friend just divorced her husband and is already with another man. Their divorce was final in November of 2006 and she's already saying she's going to marry this other guy. It is so very important to wait. Marriage has become so horribly jaded because people 'try' it and if they don't like it or it gets hard they quit. I think that you should wait, that way you can make sure you're both on the same page furture-wise when you finally get close to the marriage date.

No...make him wait and if necessary, make him wait LONGER than the 4 years you originally agreed to. 19 is way too young to know enough to get married, unless you both came out of a war zone or have lived under horrendous conditions most of your lives. This question alone tells me you're far too naive to get into a financial obligation like marriage based on your present state of mind...

Wait. Go to school and start a career before getting married.....unless a low standard of living is what you want for yourself and your family.
