when you are in Basic Set Up section, do you have it set up as DHCP or IP Static. It should be DHCP which automatically finds the IP address. I don't even know what DHCP means, but I know it worked fine when I set it up and when I set up my father's wifi network. good luck.

regarding your computer with windows 98, if it is hard wired to the router, it should still work if the drivers for the ethernet card are up to date and your router is set up properly.

Just plug the wires in to the ports, you should have had a "Quick Setup" sheet in the box - use that or go on to Linksys's site to print one. To disable the wireless portion, after you are plugged into it, log into the router's interface and look for Wireless on the menu, then disable it, save settings, and exit the interface.

It sounds like the operating system on the computer you're trying to run that setup program on might be too old for the software. Regardless, you can find the manual on http://www.linksys.com 's support site to download and give you direct setup information for the router and machines you want to network.
