Wear whatever you like. You can buy a whole new wardrobe. You should be comfortable wearing what you want- if your not comfortable in a short dress/skirt then stick to pants- if you like skirts buy them- you can get a huge whole new wardrobe of every type of clothing. it should be fun. Wait till after your male to female surgery before choosing a whole new wardrobe because the clothes may fit different after surgery.

Wear what fits! That's first and foremost rule number one!

Don't go too slutty or too hyper-conservative either...try for a middle ground. Classic American female clothes work best in more circumstances and are accepted in most situations. Jeans that are boot cut and a classic five pocket styling or even women's "weekender" cut jeans are appropriate in many situations as well.
A modest but not too restricting or hyper-Conservative style in blouses is best. Nothing too low cut or revealing nor anything that makes you look like a 1940's school marm.
Shoes, go for classic women's styles..such as ballet flats, low
healed mules, scuffs, ladies walking shoes...try to stay away from ladies wingtips! Those are SO 1950's!
Accessories;
Grab a Ladies Home Journal or even a Redbook....current newsstand edition. Check out what's being shown on your average soccer mom.
You DO not have to match your bag, shoes and belts at all times as this only showcases that you're new at this.
DO NOT WEAR Items that make you fade into your surroundings. If you work in an office, don't match your clothes to the office carpeting!

I knew this trannie who actually wore nothing but BEIGE ! Her shoes were Beige, her suits were beige, her hats were beige...even her hair was beige! She completely disappeared into the concrete of the sidewalk! DISASTROUS!

DON'T wear a mini skirt, please! there is a select few people who can effectively wear one...and if you are starting off then that is not the place to start. Just my opinion

My best advice is to find something that has flow to it, being that your are male at the moment, I'm assuming you'll need to enhance your hips to look more feminine. This can be done with tops that flow around the hips, and good fitting pants.

I don't know where in the world you are, but there is an excellent british show called what not to wear, watch it...trinny and susannah really know their clothes!

Are you going full-time? Have you started hormones? Above all, wear things that you're comfortable in. You don't have to be super-feminine - not a lot of women are! If you feel good in pants (rather than a skirt), that's fine! It doesn't make you any less of a woman. It might help to find a fashion guru of some kind - a woman (celebrities are good for this) who is similar in appearance to you, whose style you admire, and take hints from them. If you're wanting to 'pass' as a woman, the best thing to do is find clothes that emphasize the more feminine parts of your body structure, and de-emphasize the masculine parts. Because you're pre-op, you obviously want to make sure that if you're wearing pants that they're loose-fitting. If you have a masculine/muscular torso, try not to wear things that emphasize your shoulders or arms - maybe try a jacket or a shirt/dress with sleeves. My partner's a M2F transsexual. She was quite a muscular man so she likes to wear feminine jackets with sleeves that hide her biceps. She looks quite similar to Jennifer Aniston and loves her style, so often looks to Jennifer's style for guidance.
Hope that helps, good luck! xo

Never having done it but trying to help you I suggest the following to you. Try to look average and not outlandish. Take up makeup classes or vocal classes. Learn to walk, talk, sit and such. All will be well at some point. Acceptance is being more and more the way these days at a slow pace but it is going in that direction. Look for groups too to help you. Find a friend out there who is like yourself or understands what you are facing and is willing to help you as well.

Just take a look at every day women and copy their style. I suppose it depends on your size and shape. Most gender reasignments make the mistake of looking like a man in drag by wearing heavy make up and going completely over the top. Either that or they dress like a head mistress.

Get into the high street shops and start there. Good luck.

Depends on if you want to look natural or you want to go for a drag look.

If you want to go for natural then just take notice of what women are wearing around you.

If you want to go for the drag look then go for outrageous dresses and evening gowns, big wigs, and tons of makeup.
