Well, first you have to have any idea for a song. When I write songs, I usually have the lyrics and the melody going through my head at the same time. Some song writers start with the melody and some start with lyrics. I can't explain it, but it just works this way for me. When you have a completed song, one you think is good, make a recording of it. Become a member of ascap and submit your recording to them. It will then be reviewed and possibly given to an artist to review, depending on what their needs and requests are. Other options are online music publishing companies, trying to get the song in the particular artist's hands by getting back stage at concerts or waiting in lines and having the recording ready to hand to them. If there is a will, there is a way. I've even taken out a personal ad in the local paper where I know the artist lives that I wish to sing one of my songs. It's didn't work, but I'll keep trying.
