I think gay couples who make a commitment to each other should have the same rights as married couples ie finances, health care, will etc.

Not sure which country you are directing this question at.
In the United Kingdom people of the same sex (you don't have to be gay) may contract a civil partnership. This effectively makes the couple legal next of kin thus giving each other rights to the other partner's pension rights health decisions and property etc.,
We do not have marriage of same sex partners in Great Britain because the definition of a legal marriage is a "binding contract between a MAN and a WOMAN. End of.

Let's be absolutely clear on this. Marriage is actually a hetero thing. HOWEVER if a gay couple declare love and fidelity, and wish to officially and legally formalise their relationship then why not.

Please DON'T call it what is clearly is NOT, as it does nobody, and I mean nobody, any favours. As for legal recognition of a partnership - yes - why should any couple who are totally committed to each other lose out on the things straight couples take as a basic right as a consequence of their own sexual orietation.

Yes, I think gay couples should be able to marry each other and have the same rights as anybody else.

I think gays shold remain as they are. They can be also loyal to eachother. As we can see so many heterosexual marriages separate after one or two years. That can happen also to gays. So it's better for them to stay like that and enjoy their mates, but should stick to one partner only, otherwise they could get HIV or some other deseases. One partner is enough. Of course, the government can give legal rights but not real marriage. Marriage is only for the generation of children, but gays can not have children of their own. If they are men they are not feet to adopt a child; maybe only lesbians can do, bcause they are women. But the adopted child may suffer pschological problems not seeing his/her mother.

Yes! :)

Of course. Why not?
We are all humans, we should all have the same rights.

Straight people are aloud to marry- and there are things that go wrong with that sometimes- i.e people marrying for money, or high divorce rates

if straight people can marry then so can gay people.that's my opinions. but i do think marriage, unless you are religious, is an unnecessary social contract. i am, however, very young and naive. who knows, maybe in ten years i'll want nothing more than for some handsome young man to whisk me up the aisle... :)

Yes, of course, as a tax paying citizen of this country/nation I should be not just afforded the same rights, but also afforded EQUAL ACCESS to all rights afforded to everyone else.
There's no question when the physically disabled want equal access, we build ramps and install elevators so they can acces public government buildings.
What's the difference if we build a virtual ramp to equal legal marriage access for glb and t's?
NONE!
We know all too well that it's not just the letter of the law but the perception of what the law entails. Denying access to full legal marriage to gays and lesbians to marry their same sex partners is no different than saying that because a person is of a different religion or different hair color than their chosen partner they cannot get married legally.

We already allow thieves to legally marry
We already allow liars to legally marry
We already allow murderers to legally marry
We already allow rapists to legally marry
We already allow paedophiles to legally marry
We already allow inter-racial couples to legally marry
We already allow inter-faith couples to legally marry
We already allow differently abled couples to legally marry
We already allow atheists to legally marry
We already allow people of different hair colors to legally marry
We already allow different handed couples to legally marry
We already allow couples of different eye colors to legally marry

...are you catching my drift yet?

I thought so! :)
