Self employment is the only way I have ever escaped the cycles of poverty that I have had to contend. Good luck to you and yours!

It's not as easy and just getting a good job and making more money. It's a social and cultural thing too. YOu have to realize that if you do, even if you have the means, you will get some resistance and have to sever some ties. Poverty has this crab paradox that crabs that are in the crab trap can actually escape out the top, but all of the other crabs pull any crab down that tries to. Poverty is not just the money you have but how you live. Even Rags to riches celebs like Mike Tyson and Mr T are still in "Poverty"

Its pretty easy to earn enough money to get out of poverty. The problem is that it is even easier to spend enough to keep yourself stuck there. The biggest expense is interest payments on borrowed money. You need to avoid that expense, as much as possible.

Dave Ramsey's got a pretty good system. No. 1 you need an emergency fund, to take care of car repairs, medical expenses and other unplanned expenses. I've seen people trade cars because the old car needed a repair, they didn't have the extra cash to make both the car payment and the car repair. But could make a little bigger car payment and traded in a car that was almost paid off for 4 or 5 years of car payments because they didn't have the cash equal to 1 extra car payment.

Its not very hard to earn enough money to get out of poverty. The problem is that it is very easy to spend enough to keep yourself broke.

Save some money for emergencies, start paying off your debts, and keep working.

Education is the only means to get out of the cycle of poverty. When one is better educated and is equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills, one is thus better able to make good decisions. In this case, knowledge is power. However, education in itself can be hard to attain, especially if it involves lots of money. ie. tertiary education.

Nevertheless, don't ever give up and always strive to improve yourself and never stop learning. Find ways on getting a job and how you can make more money, as long as they are by legal means. Make saving at least 10% of what you earn a habit. If possible, never go on a debt.

It's gonna take a long time to see your fruits of labor. But it will be worth it.

I feel for you. The last 6 years have been rough for alot of folks. Poverty and crime has been out of control in the U.S. A higher education is probably your best bet. You don't have to do 4 years+ at a university. Your local community college should offer career programs that only take several months.

Unfortunately it is a nasty cycle.... every time you get money you gotta spend it. I would recommend some involvement in specials programs tailored to poverty. For instance when I was Yugo we got a Habitat For Humanity house which help an extreme amount financially and boosts moral.

Whatever you do, don't get involved with crime, because it will hurt your chances for government support if you -can't- find a job. Just stay out of trouble, try to get an education, and look for vocational rehabilitation services in your area.
