u know i have no problem with the ones that do it the right way and become citizens. but today that's not what happing today for one because we are not making the nm do it any more. my great grand parents immigrated from Germany and they had to know English before they became citizens but it's not like that any more if u go to read the instructions they are written in both English and Spanish. and have u called your phone company here as of late they have a separate thing for Spanish. Even menus are written in Spanish and our kids have to know Spanish before they can even graduate high school now. plus most of them are paid under the table so no taxes paid form them so that kills our economy as well.plus they want to give them welfare so why should they want to become citizens when they don't have to learn the language any more or pay taxes.

For your edification, the first Americans were not the pilgrims....see the Native Americans (wrongly called Indians) for details.

English is the Official language Mike because the first Americans where the Pilgrim Fathers 1620 and they were British immigrants..

Its like Latin in Old times...

They must learn English.. Or just you handle their Spanish

you're seeing spanish instructions everywhere because now over 10% of the American population is a native spanish speaker. no financial entity in their right minds would ever conceive of possibly alienating 20,000,000+ potential customers.

as far as I'm aware, no high school REQUIRES that graduating seniors speak spanish. many, if not all, do require that their advanced studies students have *A* foreign language. its just that given today's socio-political environment, it makes a lot of sense to be able to speak spanish. there is *NO* law citing english as the official language of america. the only law that could even been seen as saying english is the official language of america states that the federal government has no *obligation* to provide official forms in any language other than english, *NOT* the federal government must provide forms in english. stop holding people against the standards of law that doesn't exist.

have you ever been to mexico, colombia, or venezuela? if not, id recommend visiting to see the conditions immigrants lived in. to them, traveling across the ocean on a floating desk to milk cows 6 days a week is a utopia compared to the financial, social, and political situations many of these immigrants were faced with. this geographically homogeneous picture of america is akin to the same school of thought that hitler adopted. opponents of immigration have even gone as far as to suggest the legalization of the citizen's right to "murder illegal immigrants on sight."

when two aliens in the united states have a child who is born in our country, that child is automatically a citizen (and therefore has equal rights to all government provided services as the rest of us) and their parents get their green cards, which is the first step towards citizenship. this means that if they want to become a citizen (which i guarantee that if you asked any hispanic or otherwise immigrant, their answer would be 'yes,') then they have to pay taxes. keep in mind that many naturally born citizens don't pay their taxes.

also consider the entire western hemisphere. there are few countries (canada, america, and only parts of the carribean ) which speak english, two that speak french (part of canada and haiti) and one that speaks portuguese (brazil.) the rest are spanish-speaking countries. what does that mean? we're the weird one's out. the english language has a very small following (USA, england, canada, australia, new zealand, and parts of the carribean) whereas spanish has billions of speakers around the world (parts of N. america and almost all of south america, spain, and some parts the philippine islands. again, as english speakers, we're the weird ones

so before you start screaming "they took our jobs!!" keep one thing in mind: we as americans weren't welcome when our ancestors first arrived here. disagree? go to any native american reservation and tell them that is where they belong.

It is because the us does not realy have an official language.
English is the language of choice but there is no law making it official (I think). correct me if I'm wrong.
