I've heard various forecasts for winter weather. Some say it'll be a mild winter and the hottest summer yet. Others say we'll plummet to -12 degrees shortly and it will be a fairly mild summer. Can anyone sort out these predictions for me, please?

Thanks to all for answering. I'm still hoping we'll get a cold snap with snow to clear the air and restore us to health! Can't decide, so will let it go to vote.

I doubt anyone can give an accurate forecast for the weather, what with alleged global warming and the like.
The weather has certainly changed over the past few years, and I fear we just have to accept it.
We can adapt to a change, as humans, but wildlife can not.
Is it us that is causing the change, or just a natural cycle in climate. I doubt no one really knows.
Temperatures are increasing, and I feel they will continue to do so, but we should not put blame on any individuals, just try to adapt and do our best to avoid pollution that may exaggerate the problem.

As a meteorologist...I would tell you that your best source of information would be the UK Met Office at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/. However the longer out in time a forecast is made, the more errors are likely. Therefore the summer predictions for weather which is 6 months away may not be accurate and the forecast may even change as the time gets closer to that season.

the weather centre can only give accurate predictions for the next 48 hours, and fairly accurate ones for a week, after that it is in the lap of the gods, any predictions are a bit of a lottery, so they can't really tell you what the weather will be at the end of January.

predictions that's all they are, the met office only do forecasts for 5 days in advance,
Predictions you hear are just people guessing, they usually get the 5 day forecast wrong, so I wouldn't put much credence into a 5 month forecast.
