It's not really mass media so much as instant media. It used to take months to find out about news, then weeks then days and now seconds It is that speed which has shaped our world. Now people in the US can find out about earthquakes and floods and major military defeats or victories in a matter of minutes from their occurrence. Now that we are spoiled with this instantaneous information our collective patience has gone down the hill and stunning events can cause instantaneous outrage, many times before all the facts are known, at a time when only speculation exists.
