I believe in Jinn and I have seen them. Jinn cannot help you, so don't ask them, they are nothing but wisps of different colored smoke like substances.
I also believe there are both good and bad jinn just like humans. Here's a clue even good jinn go to God for help.

Sure I believe in jinn (isn't that where we got the word "genies"?) I have no idea why it would be a sin to ask help from a good jinn ... unwise if, as someone else mentioned, you don't really know them, but sinful? In whose eyes?

Depends on what you ask for help with. Help saving the whales, then it is not a sin. Help harpooning whales, then it is a sin.
