I tried to make this as unscientific as possible because you asked it in philosophy.
The sun has this sybolism; something we don't ever need to really talk about to understand and grasp.
In movies after the long battle that takes place int he night, and people die one after another, the conflict is usally resolved by day break. The sun creeps over the hills, and lightr washes over the land and everything is 'okay'.
The sun entails that with a new days comes new chances and oppurtunities to make things better than the day before. The un gives a sense of renewal and rebirth, every mornind that we get up.
I love waking up and seeing the sun in my room in fragments, coming through my blinds, it's the most beautiful thing ever, and it really makes me happy, a really look forward to my day.
good question

Yes it does, it is imperative for natural brain function, and it is the vitamin named Seratonin, this is a combative force for manic depression, or any depression, too much is no good in the tanning respect, but alcoholism is a very depressed state of mind and therefore those with no sun become very manic, so they did experiments with them with the Sun, not only did it make them happier drunks, but it helped their livers as well.

Sunlight surely cheers me up. Especially in the winter. I think the wavelength of light from the sun does have an effect on your moods.

I guess so, because when people are in it less (like in the winter when it's mostly behind clouds), they get SAD disorder (seasonal affective disorder), which basically means they're mildly depressed. The only reason I know all that is because my mom has SAD (kind of a fitting acronym, don't you think?) and she has to sit under this huge, incredibly bright lamp everyday, because it simulates the sun.

Sunlight causes people to feel more active, energetic, balanced, strengthened, and less nervous. Many people can identify with the low-sunlight, winter depression symptoms of fatigue, lowered motivation, sleepiness, increased appetite, weight gain, irritability, and decreased sociability. Nicely summarized, sunshine is health and happiness.
