my 360 has broke down so i have decided to call them and send it in and get a new one from them but i was wondering if i needed the reciet and if i had to pay anything? and is it too late for me to get a new one?

We are on our second Xbox 360, which stopped reading discs after 1.5 months. Xbox has extended their warrenties to a year, so you can call them, and they will repair it at no cost to you. Just a warning though, dealing with the people over at the customer service can be extremely frustrating.

I'm pretty sure you can probably return it as long as you have the receipt ... I'm not sure about the warranty though. Good luck! ;-)
