can u suggest me some software freely available on the net or for testing the bandwidth factor

I can suggest a number of software packages that would do this if your network is through a server and not a router, which I dont think it is since you would probably already know how to do it if you were running a domain.

you can use any number of free sniffer programs out there. the easiest method is just to install the software on another system which is connected to the same switch as the target system
