do you really want to know? because we don't have enough love and happiness in our life to impress us enough in an even flow of emotion. It is uplifting to have love, and happiness, and it impresses us with the fond memories but it is not a constant. What becomes the constant is the pain most of the time, The pain of misunderstandings with loved ones, friends, etc., then accidents happen, or deliberate abuse which impresses our emotions and mental abilities. Those things get suppressed into the psyche most of the time because we have not vindicated ourselves, or retaliated, or maybe no one cared to do anything to help you. These things cannot go away they have not been resolved. Good things are like candy we want and need more, they are satisfying, and they make you feel good and secure. But bad things make you feel, bad, sad, mad, tired, depressed, and you dont want more, and you need relief, and it gives you so much stress you will have nightmares. We need to do something to balance our lives and offset that bad, that happens, immediately think of good things, and do something that makes you happy, right away if you can. Like I said more love in your life, that is the real answer. Or if you are physically frustrated go to a gym, swim, lift weights, run, ride a bike, even ride a horse and or camel, who cares, just work it out of your system and take in good oxygen. Breathe and then go outside and howl like a wolf.

I can imagine there are several reasons why people always remember the bad patch in their lives just as they are capable of remembering the good. It could be that the issue was never resolved within, it was a life changing event, they cannot accept it or know how to deal with it, they can't move on or let go or even think they have a choice to do so. Some people, like my father, like to be a victim of their past and are competitive with their "battle wounds". I don't think the bad patch will do anything productive for those who use it as a crutch or chose not to move on-it's just fuel for the fire at that point.
The "bad patch " may help others gain strength for present dilemmas. "I made it through that, I can surely make it through this"; this is how I see it.
Some think of the brain as an emotionless storage base that we give feeling and power too[they think the brain does not know good from bad just data]. So every time a word or feeling that correlates to stored data is connected, the intensity of our reaction to it gives it power and we associate it with either good or bad and give it a name and title.

I believe we remember the bad things that happen to our lives because for the most part they are painful experiences. We are reminded by them from time to time to teach us and learn from our mistakes so that we will know what to do if something similar will arise tomorrow, today, and in the future. Hopefully not make the same mistakes. If we do make the same mistakes again and again, (which I have in many occations) it means we have not learned from them or because its the only way we know how even though it's not the right way. I think no one is immune from struggles, problems, and bad things that happen. It is helpful and also depressing but we always come out of it eventually. If not then terrible things will happen like too much stress, sickness, and even death. It helps to have family, friends, and someone you really trust to talk to and be there in times of need. We all go though the ups and downs of our daily lives but to feel the struggles and pain will only make us stronger. We can also help others from our past experiences and knowledge by giving advice if asked or telling them our stories.
This New Year, we can look back from last year and think of the things we did and did not do and what we can do better this year.
Happy New Year! :)

The reason most people rememeber their struggles than the good is coz most often its the bad that brings about the life changing experiences and when something changes your life you don't tend to forget.
However some people love their pain, as its a drug to them, and often for some good comes, e.g. attention.
For me, there has been more bad than good, thats why i remember it. It can sometimes be very impowering as if you remember the pain of the bad times, you often will work twice as hard to make sure you don't go through it again.

People have a tendancy to remember the bad, however also remember the really good. They are usuallly significant events which may have brought great joy or pain and usually something was learned from the experience. Those are things you really don't want to forget. Those are the things that make us who we are...the things that shape us as individuals.

There is a theory that each of our memories are connected to an emotion, and the stronger the emotion, the stronger the memory. So if you seem to have a large deal of unpleasant memories, than it is most likely that those memories had the most intense emotions associated with the experience.

it's just memory...because the emotion was intense, therefore you remember it more vivdly. Badpatch can be helpful because it remind us of not winding up to the same path again. Sometimes, it can cause ptts, because the event really impacted the person's life....
