I heard a story that supposedly occured back in the days when people were regularly beheaded as punishment for a certain crime. Once this guy was going to be beheaded... his friend was struck with a unusual idea... he knew his friend would be beheaded no matter what... and there was nothing he could do..... so he asked his friend to be do an experiment as his las feat he would do in his life... The experiment consisted that after he was beheaded... he was to bliink if he was still alive.... (if he still had conciousness of the brain) Well it turned out that after he was beheaded he blinked incredibly for about 10 seconds before the blinking stopped... kinda interesting huh? anyone else heard this story??????? My sister's teacher related that story to her class... and my sis told it to me... supposedly its true.... and I think its feasble.... not like we could prove it this days though :) so if you could give me the names or sources for this story I would really appreciate it

I heard the story from a psychology professor when I was in college - if I remember correctly the man was some sort of doctor in France (early psychologist, perhaps) who was beheaded due to his ties to the nobility after the Revolution. He and his colleague wanted to prove their theories about the physical workings of the human mind...and like you said, he was going to die anyway...best to make some good use of it. Wow, talk about devotion to your studies!!

Sorry - no source for the info. You might try researching the guillotine.

The brain would be alive and awake I am sure for a few moments.till the blood drained away to starve the brain of oxygen.so this seems reasonable to assume that he would still have consciousness for a ten seconds.
I read some true famous last words once. one was about a man about to be hanged, as he walked up to the noose . he put his foot on the trap door under him. and asked, Is this thing safe?

well I have not heard this exact story, but it is documented that upon being beheaded there is still muscular movements within the head. As far as I know it is undetermined whether they are muscle spasms and onsents of shock in the body or concious movements.

I've heard that story before, though I don't have any sources for you, sorry. I've even heard stories where a person would have enough breath to utter one word before they died.
