If the computer you are on now does not have an ethernet card in it then put one in.

All your computers will need Ethernet capability. This can already be installed in your computer or you will have to add it if it doesn't have it. An alternate is wireless (more later). You need to be sure the router you purchase has a WAN connection for a USB modem. (not an Ethernet WAN connection - otherwise you will need to get a modem with Ethernet connectivity. If you do not own your modem but got it from your ISP, you may be able to exchange it with them for an Ethernet one).
For wireless, you may want to get a wireless router. This will allow wireless enabled computers to connect via wireless rather than having to physically plug into the router. Laptops is where this would be desireable. Just be sure that if you have any wireless PCs (if you already have a wireless capable laptop, for example) that the wireless router you get is compatible, for example 802.11g is quite popular. If you do go wireless, I suggest Netgear and avoid Linksys - I've had problems with Linksys wireless (reliability problems) but since I switched to Netgear everything has been great.
