Why do people today think it'll be cool to be a 'pirate' and a 'gangtar'?

When they are all criminals like those crazy people in prisons... I understand the whole Johnny Depp thing... sort of. I am from Brasil and the Amazon is so big, it has pirates who raid boats sometimes. When I left Brasil, I heard from home about people getting robbed. It doesn't make sence to me... I know I'm stupid but I am a curious soul.

I prefer privateering... therefore I can travel the world and can't be killed... and I can get paid by the government and get treasure... Someone told me I look like a 'johnny Depp pirate'. whatever.

I like rum.

People are attracted to the idea of doing whatever they want on the high seas of old - like in the movies. It's a dream of adventure.

I really doubt most want to raid, rape and pillage.

For me personally i think it would be cool to be a pirate because it seems so adventurous..travel around the world searching for lost treasures. From what your saying the pirates that were in Brazil were the criminal kind but thats not the kind i wish to be...I did get inspired by the whole Johnny Depp pirate idea but not in Pirates of the Carribean..i was first inspired when he was a Pirate in the movie Chocolat. So to sum it up i think the whole idea behind being a pirate is the adventure and the unknowingness that comes along with it. Who wouldn't want to sit apon a boat drinking rum dreaming of lost treasures..lol
