-always be on your heals and toes. when going down the hill.

-intermediate runs are better to learn on than bunny hills. only go on the bunny hill on your first run then go on a groomed intermidiate run from then on. speed actually helps with balance.

-arm and leg push out of the chair lift when getting off.

snowboarding is much easier to learn than skiing.

For gods sake take a lesson!!! But if you are not going to try these tips. Getting off the lift 1.make sure your nose of your board is up. 2.lay board FLAT and pointing down the run off for the chair. 3.place free foot against back binding(to stop from slipping)4.stand up and stay sideways!! It helps to point your arms over the nose and tail to keep your positioning right.
Going down the hill start with side slipping on the heel side of your board(if you dont know which this is go back to the lodge and drink beer all afternoon)Keep your board across the hill, bend your knees and pull your toes up. if you want to go faster let yout toes drop down a little. If you want to stop right away pull your toes right up. Whatever you do dont let the toes drop to the downhill side of the board or guess what will happen?? Face plant. Also try to keep your weight even on both of your feet. You can also try the point the board straight down the hill method and hope for the best.
Good luck

The best advice I could give anyone who wants to board is take a lesson....I did some serious damage to my knee trying it all on my own. The instructor will show you how to get on and off the lift properly as well as show you the basics.

The second best peice of advice I have is....expect to fall, everyone does so don't worry about it, just get back and go until you fall again and repeat.

Finally, have fun and let the day go by. Relax and have fun...don't worry about looking like an idiot, we all do at some point so why worry.

Good Luck!!!

tows - if its a chair lift prepare for getting off when your board touches the snow push off the chair with you arms and try ride away as smooth as you can but if it is first time mabi think bout carrying your board on the chair with you and put it on when you reach the top.

if it is a button tow or poma then prepare your self for the jult you will first have when it starts too pull you after that try stay calm and you board flat it mite take a few trys but you will pick it up pretty quick

then for tips if your not having a lesson

try learn how too ride your edges first start with your toe edge get the basic stance and then simple stand up at bit tooo move and too stop bend down this movements encourages you to increase and decrease the angle of the edge

then doo the came for heel edge

ok enough of the lessons though

some easy tips are wrap up warm you don't wanna freeze

goo with your falls try not put your hands out to stop your self coz thats an easy way to break your wrist

have fun

don't get frustrated if you don't get it striahgt away

bend your legs and always look in the direction of where your going

mabi get some heat pads for your hands

look out for other people on the slop

and one thing try not sit right in the centre of a run it is just annoying !!

When you get on the lift you shouldn't have your back leg locked into the bindings. THat's the leg that should be free so you can actually walk a little while you're moving in liine. When you're about to get off the lift, you should turn to the side and kinda face the pole. You put your back foot that's not in the bindings in between both bindings(in the middle section of the board). It's the same thing as riding yet that back foot isn't locked in. Bend you're knees a little and look in the direction that you're going to go. Keep your arms out straight ahead of you. An instructor who rode with me a couple of times told me to pretend as if I have a cup of coffee in each of my hands in order to keep them straight in front of me. You might fall a couple of time's, but everyone does. Fall on your butt. It's not very exciting when you fall on your face. You just need to practice. You probably should go on the lift by yourself because it's highly likely that you'll grab on to the person sitting with you and then you'll both crash. The first time you ride the lift you might want to go with someone because it can be a little freaky being up that high with nothing holding you back from falling off. You're going to fall, you're going to be sore, and you're going to bruise up, but it's so worth it. It's a lot of fun.

Don't get freaked out first of all, it may seem silly but the first time off a lift can be a bit intimidating so be calm & confident.
When it is time to pop off the lift try to just smoothly come off the lift and when your board hits the snow ride it out nice gentle all at once motion...nice & smooth :o)
Have fun!!

1. Take a lesson.

2. You'll fall down. Everyone does.

3. Wear wrist guards. Did I mention you'll fall down?
