Well...It doesn't get much worse than Red cool aid...red dye and sugar. There must be a conspiracy between carpet manufacturers and children's beverage makers! If this happens, quickly throw an old dry, bath towel on the stain and absorb as much liquid as possible. Then, with a different towel blot the stain with a solution of cold water and a few drops of dish soap. Do not rub the carpet or you can damage the fibers. Continue blotting and absorbing until the stain is gone, or it fails to lighten further.
At this point you still have a shot on the fresh stain, but the odds are against you on the very old one.
Go to your local carpet cleaning supply store (check your local yellow pages) and get a heat activated cleaning compound such as Red Out or Stain Off. Follow the instructions and safety information on the bottle.
If one of these products doesn't solve the problem, contact an IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning & Restoration) certified carpet cleaning firm...just google it!

Get a friend or family member to go in with you on renting a carpet cleaner, rent from a store that is open Saturday and closed Sunday so that you both have time to do your carpets, if needed you can always do your carpet twice, I find it is harder to just spot remove, but that is an option.... a can of carpet cleaner and a good brush but be careful not to scrub to hard, esp if carpeet is older... Good Luck to you

depends upon the stain. In many cases the little "stain removal" packets (like shout or spray and wash) will remove stains. You can actually take shout, put it on carpet, let it sit and scrub it lightly and rinse. In many cases the stain will come right up.
Baby wipes will remove milk type stains.

Make a paste out of baking soda and water. Spread it on the stain and allow the mixture to dry. Then vaccuum up the residue. Just don't use this on dark colored fabric, it may discolor it.

shaving cream, rub it in with a damp cloth, and repeat as needed, gets out most stains with 2 or 3 coats.. for blood stains, take a damp cloth, and grab a piece of ice with it, and rub the ice into the stain, and put pressue on the cloth too...
