If so, did you ever put an exercise book or magazine etc. under your trousers to reduce the effects? Was it succesful?

I went to a school where the cane was used, though I never got it.
I certainly don't remember anyone who did get it boasting of anything like this - as mrsnewifie said, there wouldn't usually be any time

Definitely, as I was brought up in Nigeria, West africa, the teachers are much strictier than the Victorian regime.
You get caned for any slight mistakes or misbehaviour, Africans definitely believe is spanking a child when they've done wrong, unlike british school kids now who are not even allowed to be touched in anyway by their teachers if they misbehave, now in some british school, it's the students beating up the teachers, no discipline at all.

Im 33 & i was probably 1 of the last to get physicas punishment.We got the strap(like the belt without the buckle),leather strap.That was infant/junior school & i dont think i got it in my last years at school so that must of been round about when they stopped it.Didnt do me any harm but it didnt do me any good neither,just made me more stubborn i think!never bothered with anythin to reduce pain,it was always dealt with 2 quick 2 have time 2 think or do anythin like that.i must of been tough then eh.NOT.

no I didn't get caned ... but did get the belt what corporal was called was called in Scotland a thick piece of leather with 3 tongs and can still feel it it was a deterrent if you were really bad you got 6 of the best so to speak ..had some real monsters at school who loved to inflict pain ...teachers are not all nice believe me been there

Got both the cane and the strap. Tried the old book ruse but was sussed and got twice the punishment. Though when our headmaster was replaced by a headmistress a queue started to develop. (All boys school)

Never got the cane, but did get the old wooden paddle with holes in it, and trust me there was no time to get anything in your drawers lol got the ruler an awful lot also from my darn piano teacher for not cutting my nails and she could hear them clicking on the ivories lol

We had the strap. I never got this though, because if you did something bad enough the school would call your parents and tell them you were to get the strap. Unfortunatley (for me) my Dad would tell them they were NOT to give me the strap under any circumstances. When I got home my Dad would mete out his own punishment for transgressions at school. I wish I could have just got the strap!

I didn't get the cane it was a large piece of wood with a handle called a paddle. No I didn't pad my pants. I took my punishment bravely.

i got the cane but across the palms of my hands. \twice on each hand annd it hurt but no way to cushion those blows!
I was 10 yrs old at the time.
