Define "Liberal". The word goes back to FDR dude, he started using it instead of the phrase "Progressive" which had become a misnomer for Communist thanks to Facist, I mean, Republican mudslinging.

Actually, A LOT of the hippie types and others who partied in the `60s sold out and became establishment types--the ones who said that when their generation came to power that they'd reform the RACIST and UNJUST drug laws. But, alas, they grew up to become hypocrites like Bush and Clinton and MAKE THINGS WORSE.
I can't EVEN imagine Orrin Hatch ever having dosed on acid but I can Patrick Leahy---who was a personal friend of Jerry Garcia and got backstage at Grateful Dead concerts when they played in DC.

Liberals and progressives go back over 100 years. Without them, 10 year old kids would be working in coal mines.
Theres always been more drug and alcohol use among Repubs.

I'm sure it was a contributing factor. Mostly it was the communist takover of the university system thanks to FDR. Those students became the new teachers for the next generation of self-loathing, guilt-ridden liberals. And so on.
