I was molested by my father over 40 years ago and I have been able to forgive him. I realized how messed up he was and understanding that has really helped me to let go. I havn't forgotten though, and that tempers what I do with my life. I really believe that the person that forgiveness helps the most is the person who was injured. It just makes you bitter, angry and defensive if you hold on to the resentment. Forgiveness helps you heal.

I'm not sure. I've never experience such horrible thing but I know alot of kids and people went through the same thing. Some of them have forgiven even though it seems impossible. It is up to the victim to do so. I think it will take a long time to forgive or to even come close. I must say that someone who's been molested has to be very traumatic however short or long it lasted. A professional help, family and someone you trust could help in the process of healing and in going through daily life struggles. Goodluck in the path of recovery. It's a New Year. There's hope for everyone.

PS. I think people can forgive but never forget. I agree with others who has said that forgiveness is the way to healing.

Forgiveness is for your healing. It's not so that they can feel like they got away with something. Remember it's a learned behavior and someone surely did it to them. Dont forget tho, be very observant with them when they are around other potential victims

Yes but that wouldn't mean that I would wish to associate with him & my forgiveness would probably follow years of therapy.

I would not want to carry hatred within me; its such a waste of energy & emotion.

Forgivness is divine. Personally, I believe one can only be forgiven if they seek forgivness.

It might depend on how old we were, and whether they knew it was wrong and were sorry.
