okay it's not everyone but it's some people and it's really annoying me how people ASSUME all cheerleaders do is jump around in little skirts when we don't. we do more than just dance.;-(

well im a cheerleader and my squad is all about nationals and comepetitions we aren't about basketball games.we are athlets.we do so much work its not even funny some people dont know what its like to go home and have to sit in a tub of ice because you are aching all over :-(
i know some people like to say cheerleaders are dumb but not all of us are well at least in my school we aren't.in order to be a cheerleader at my school you need to have a high GPA .sometimes cheerleaders do act dumb just like any other teenager.i have found that SOME of the girls who critizise us have tried out for the squad and not made it.
i find movies like "bring it on" give us a nasty stereotype but w.e not every cheerleader is like that. my squad is mostly made of former gymnasts and dancers

Yah I hate stereotyping. I think it's just because people are tired of their own lives and in order to get out of that boredom, they tend to go criticize people....

I agree with the fact that the movie "Bring it On" is overrated. Mass media is one of the reasons why they tend to be like that

About the slutty, feedback, just because you wear something "free", not to mention "tasteful" during competitions could not be a basis of one's criticism

The reason is shallow, but shallow reasons have deep effects

I think it's mostly the resentment that cheerleaders draw so much attention and that they are so positive. This usually only comes from those that are negative and insecure.

Personally, I think it's amazing what they do, and that they are so uplifting. And yes, I think many are very attractive because they are beautiful, athletic and happy ... what's wrong with that? Isn't that why they are there? Motivation comes in many forms, but that is a good one :)

Cheer leaders like other student athletes often get preferential treatment and are often part of the "in crowd". Recently there was a situation in a school here in Texas where the Cheerleaders ruled the school even to the point of intimidating the teachers. People don't like that kind of behavior. While you may think that you don't feel like your better than others you probably don't even notice that you act like it. I have never seen a football player or a cheerleader that didn't think they were better or cooler or prettier than us average folks. Sorry that just how it is. Get used to it or quit the squad.

because most of the ones i know are irritating, arrogant and not very thoughtful/insightful...not very good intellectual company. But then not all cheerleaders r like that..also, wats the point in cheerleading? i find the cause pretty useless-no future in it...etc.

I always loved cheerleaders. now I love the nfl's cheerleaders. people hate them because they can't get out in front of a crowd with a tube top on and jump around care free.

People think cheerleaders are dumb and snobby for the same reason people think rockers do nothing but drink, have sex, and party all the time. Or that the IRS employs no one but jerks with pocket protectors.

It's called stereotyping, sweetie. You either ignore it or let it determine who you are. Your choice, sweets.

most people just believe what is portrayed in movies and on t.v., really they know nothing about the sport or the hard work put into learning it and perfecting it they go with what they DO know... and thats what the movies tell them, that cheerleaders are stuck up little girls that jump around in skirts and scream RAH RAH!...if only the world wasnt so one minded

Because it's not real athletics. It's athletics mixed watered down with erotic dancing in sexual clothing. The next step is dancing in strip clubs.

Think about it: Would ESPN be so interested in showing cheerleading competitions if it were filled with less attractive, ugly girls?
