You can tell by how the "hole" on their underside looks. If the hole is closer to the hampster's rear end, then it is a girl. A male will have a hole closer to its abdomin and will have testes by its rear. Size cannot tell you much about gender, I have a male hampster that is tiny, and my sister has a female hampster that is huge!

The male will be longer at the rear and sort of squared. The female is shorter and comes to a point where the tail begins. Regardless of the sexes, hamsters will fight after they reach a certain age and it is best to separate them. If you do have a male and a female and want to breed them...when the female is ready, she will stand perfectly still and raise up her rear when you touch her.

Males will have a bump at the end of the butt which is where the two testicles are located. in a female it looks like the butt just comes to a point where the tail is. also the distance between the anus and the genitals in males is twice as long as in females.

if you don't know try and separate them in two cages or clean out beds/travel baskets for hamsters and take them to your local vet. They have experience on these things and will be able to tell you
