"The birds and the bees" (sometimes expanded to "the birds, the bees and the butterflies" or "the birds, the bees, the flowers, and the trees") is a commonly used phrase (which has become somewhat of a cliché) which refers to clumsy or inept attempts at sex education for children or adolescents, such as the use of euphemisms or symbols to describe sexual behaviour or body parts. A discussion about "the birds and the bees" may therefore involve references to nature (ie. animals and plants) without actually describing human biology or providing any useful insight.

When bees are getting nourishment from flowers, some of the flower's repoductive particles get stuck to the bees. When they fly away some of those particles fall free to the ground where new flowers may then spring up later on if the particles take to the soil. Animals in the forests etc do much the same thing with trees and plants. By their consumption of the trees fruits, exposing the seeds within. The animals do not eat the seeds and when they are finished eating, they leave the exposed fruit on the ground somewhere else. If the seeds take to the soil, a new tree or plant will grow. Nature uses this self perpetuating reproductive cycle to continue to create new life.

well i figured out a few weeks ago that it has to do with birds and bees pollinating flowers, so they can reproduce. don't ask me how this is supposed to be a simpler way of explaining than the truth.

This is just a very naive and innocent way of saying; We have sex to proginate the species. Birds and bees do it, we do it..... that's it.

Its just a metaphor to describe the biological act of procreation, in other words sex and reproduction. It is used to keep the young one from discovering too much too so.
