J.K. Rowling weaves world history, world mythology, and bits of literature into her books. She includes red herrings among her many genuine clues to throw her readers off. Although she has had part of the book planned ahead of time, there is research to be done and a lot of information to be covered. She has many questions to answer and will want to end the series well. There is so much anticipation for each book and that means a great deal of pressure on her to turn out a great book. It will take time for her to complete a book that she'll be satisfied with. She'll be careful to go over it and make sure that she didn't make any mistakes and if she has it will require rewriting. Fans really scrutinize the books for details (which she is well aware of) and she is obsessive by nature, which she has mentioned in interviews.

Because every Harry Potter book that the author releases gets phenomenal acceptance by the readers. So if I were the author of course I would want my next book to surpass the previous blockbuster. The author will have to think and write it in such a way that it catches and stays with the minds of the reader for a very long time. Planning and thinking of how it will done would take a very long time also.

It takes so long for Harry Otter books to come out because J.K. Rowling will settle for nothing short of the best writing. She puts a lot of thought into them. For spells, she uses latin words which sometimes take a long time to figure out. Plus, she thinks of how the fandom is going to analyze everything. And even after she gets the book written, it has to be editted and approved by the publishers.

Have you seen how many pages are on those things? How long do you think that'd take to write. This is the last book of the 7 year series so it's going to be the best and it takes a long time. JK Rowling has her hands full so stop rushing. Slow down sailor. :)

Because anything good is worth waiting for. I really like several authors and they all take a long time to publish a new book. If we didn't have to wait so long we would take it for granted and wouldn't savor every word in a new book.

Because it takes a long time for a writer to create a good, spellbinding, well-written piece of work. If she just went through willy nilly, it wouldn't be nearly as well-written and the books wouldn't be as popular as they are. It's hard to have patience but we, as readers, can get through her books a lot faster than she can write them. So, we just have to wait and try to find other interests in the meantime.

Because the publishers prefer to wait a year before another book from the series is released. Plus J.K. is in the process of writing it.

It takes JKR a long time to write a 400+ page book!

It will probably be 700-800 pages which takes a long time to write. Also she recently had another kid so she couldn't really write as much as she normally would have for a while.
