shop at Aldi. The problem is that fresh fruits and veggies can be costly. This is part of the reason why the poorer people in this country have such a problem with obesity. More healthful food is beyond their means. Aldi now carries a limited amount of fruits and veggies. Also try ethnic food stores. We go to the local european store and find cold cuts and half of what is charged at the big chains. fresh fruit and veggies are cheaper as well as is all beef, poultry and seafood. Example the local Jewel (big chain here is Chicago) will list 1/2 pound of Salami at $3.99. The deli we go to has same exact brand at $2.99 for the full pound.

I think if you served ALOT of eggs and potatos maybe you could do it but I think for a family of 6 $200 is a modest figure assuming everyone in the family does not want to eat dollar pizzas at every meal every day. Bulk is a great way to go but it can depend heavily on finances. Buying bulk can last a long time but a family only able to spend $100 a week probably does not have the money to go drop $400 at once at a bulk store. But thats just guessing that income is extremely limited and in saving for a huge bulk trip you still have to feed the family.

Buy generic spaghetti, elbow macaroni, macaroni and cheese, rice, mashed potatoes, chicken 10lb bag ($4.90) most places, hamburger rolls, bread, bologna, hot dogs, pork and beans, stewed tomatoes, neckbones. It can be done. Children first then the parents have what's left. I've had to do it with less than 100 and did quite well. You might want to apply for EBT (HRS/DCF) to make sure this situation doesn't happen again. With 6 people you qualify for over 500 hundred dollars a month. It takes between 2 weeks to 30 days for approval.

im phenominal when it comes to grocery bills, first if you can goto costco and buy ground beef..( when you get ground beef home, break into smaller baggys and freeze so you only unfreeze what you need, none goes bad) cosco, buy cheese, milk eggs, bread cereal, toilet tissue baby formula if needed... next goto foodsco and buy the stuff sugar, ketchup, the stuff you dont need in bulk.. ok now plan what youll eat.. cereal eggs for breakfast...get some lunch meats for lunch..dinner, think tacos... youve got your ground and cheese, local discount grocery for taco shells, always havetortillias on hand, ( they go with anything, kids love them)
you may have to eat the same thing for a few days straight, so make it something that tastes good...tacos rock!! everyone can make their own....clip cupons, mostly costco, discount grocery and dont buy crap like munchies, that stuff costs a bundle..get your kids eating fruit..grapes,jello makes for good desert.oh, and buy potatoes..
if youve ground beef and potatoes, youve got food... good luck
looking at other answeres here, someone sugested churches, thats an excelent idea, theres no shame in that.. also find your local food bank and volunteer...
