This is intended for women answerers only...since most guys don't like to even be around women when they discuss periods..i'm assuming there arn't any guys even reading this. Anyways usually my period last around 5 days. My last one started a few days early and ended later than usual. All together it was about 7 or 8 days long. I had been extremely stressed during this time and also had been traveling alot during this time. Could this cause it to have lasted longer?

I used to have your problem for many years. My period would be late or early, and usually extend for seven days. To answer your question, yes, stress can influence your menstral cycle. Other areas to consider is if you have made changes to your diet, for instance, stopped consuming certain foods that you used to, or lowered the amount of meat intake. Since you have been travelling alot, you may not be getting enough sleep. This can effect your stress levels, and therefore play with your period. The best thing to do is to speak with a trusted physician, and get a blood test. The blood test can determine if you are lacking any vitamins and check your hormone levels.

I am sorry I cant answer this for sure, but I can tell you that I have the same question. I lost my job recently and have been under a great deal of stress wondering what I am going to do etc. I had 2 periods in November. The first one was light and the second one about 2 weeks later was normal to heavy. I thought that was really strange.

Absolutely it can and will. Stress will also cause missed periods or delayed periods. You could also have a cyst. Do you notice more than usual pain during this period? Was the color any different than before? More than likely it is due to stress. If you're still concerned please see your Doctor as we can only give answers on the little information we receive. Most definately! Stress is a major factor and can cause your period to be late, early or even not at all! Travel and changes to normal routine also have serious effects on your period as well.

Just a bit of trivia: Many of the women in the concentration camps during the Holocaust had sporadic periods or none at all because of the horrific and stressful conditions of the time.

Stress can definitely have an effect on your period. Causing it to be longer or shorter, heavier or lighter, etc. I often have that problem as well, and if there happens to be a stressful situation going on in my life, my period changes.
