I have one inverted nipple and one that is considered flat. My first pregnancy went well, but the left nipple never stuck out like it was supposed to. I had to use a nipple sheild which is a small plastic device that is shaped like a protruding nipple with 3 holes in it. I had to use on both sides b/c baby would not latch on to my breast. I found breastfeeding very difficult, and was only able to continue for 3 months. I am now pregnant w/ my second child, and both nipples are sticking out for once! I am going to attempt breastfeeding again w/ out a sheild with hopes I can get my baby used to my nipples. Some women can't breast feed, and this in no way is your fault or bad. I wish you the best of luck. Also, try using a breast pump and then feeding from a bottle. I found this to work the best.

Yes, there are cups you can put over your nipples and the baby can nurse while you wear them. Go to www.medela.com, I think they sell them. Also, by using the breast pump---just to get started, it will pull your nipples out so that your baby can latch on. Just turn it on for a minute until they are out pretty far. One more websight, www.breastfeeding.com, it is a huge help, just about every topic under the sun.

I have flat and inverted nipples, because of my nipples I couldn't breastfeed. So instead I pumped my breast by hand. People say it a longer process and harder, but to me it was easier and less painful than a pump.Good Luck!

Have you tried a Breast pump, I beleive this helps, at least you'll be feeding the colostrum and milk. Try contacting the La Leche League, they're the experts!

try using a breast pump, you can buy a relatively inexpensive hand-operated breat pump at babies r us (like $10-$15). The suction will help pull it back out. My friend had this prob and that's what did it for her.
