I'm 22 years old and I've just been kicked out of my house. I'm looking for a place to go, and I have no relatives nearby. I have $150, a car and a $100 walmart card. I'm looking to find a safe place to start a new life. Where can I go? What kind of jobs can I get to keep me afloat for a couple of months, or at least to get an apartment for the time being?

There are always more opportunities in a big city than a small town. Stay away from so called homeless shelters if you’re smart and rent a dormitory bed at the Salvation Army, there you can shower, have a hot meal and a mailing address. They can also provide sound advice and counseling--and please don’t worry about their name. The last thing the Salvation Army does is push religion at you; their purpose is strictly to help people help themselves.

Jobs, most already mentioned here are good opportunities, but let me add “Reprographics” to the list. Every city where an architect is employed or construction exists has one or more reprographics shops. They print thousands of copies of plans, drawings, and related E.P.A. reports--any paper work related to construction. These shops are constantly in need of clean, dependable people to run machines and deliver their product. It’s clean but precise work that leads to a future if you want it, if you don’t that’s OK too, but they will TRAIN the right person!

Don't spend your money on anything that isn't absolutely necessary, good luck and I wish you the best.

try a waiter job. that way you'll get paid daily and you can probably sneak some food. in the meantime sleep in your car somewhere or with friends so you don't blow your $150. i'd tell you to come by here in florida but its really expensive here. how about texas or north carolina for the long term? they are pretty cheap.
