Crowe didn't direct Fast Times. He wrote it based on his book. It was directed by Amy Heckerling.

And the director's cut of Almost Famous is his best directorial work.

It's a toss up between Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Say Anything. Though, Elizabethtown is insanely cute, it's the first movie that I actually liked Orlando Bloom in!

I am sure lots of people will say "Almost Famous." That was a good movie in its own right, but by far his best movie is "Vanilla Sky." He really chose his shots well to convey the story and his use of all those pop culture images was genius.
