Is there anything you can do before you go to sleep to influence your dreams like listen to or watch something over and over. Is there also anyway to control what goes on in your dreams.

Sometimes I dream about what ever it was I went to bed thinking about. If you hear something going on on TV or the radio while you sleep , that can make you dream about what ever you heard. Maybe you could play a tape while you sleep that talks about what you want to dream about.

As a writer I've often dreamed whole plays and short stories, and even the structure of novels. I usually know when that's happening, and find I can direct and edit those dreams while they're in progress. But I interfere as little as possible, believing the dream can often lead me where I wouldn't think to go, consciously. Apart from that I've always turned my dreams loose since childhood, and learned much from them. Some repeated, and developed over time. Now I'm old, I often find when I'm resting, listening to the radio, my mind drifts off and I discuss matters with the people on radio (they rarely listen to me which makes me cranky!) ... or drift off sideways into "foreign paths and faery seas forlorn"; or into memories stirred by whatever the radio folk are talking about. Apart from all that, I suggest you just let your dreams ride free, no matter how alarming or frightening. Try to fix how you feel about the dream as you wake, write it down, see what free associations you can make, and follow where they lead without fear. Nothing in the mind can hurt, or be truly repugnant. It's only human. We need to learn, and our own mind can be a great teacher, if we have the courage for it. What's more, it can be very satisfying, and fun.

Yes - it's called 'lucid dreaming'.

Lucid dreaming (also known as dream consciousness or conscious dreaming) is dreaming while being aware that you are dreaming. To actually have a lucid dream you merely have to recognize that you are dreaming. Realizing you are dreaming may not seem all that special, but becoming aware that you are dreaming presents the opportunity of controlling dreams. The idea is that once you are aware you are dreaming you can alter your dreams and dictate what happens: you can do anything you’ve ever wanted and go anywhere you’ve ever desired. Furthermore, everyone can learn how to have lucid dreams. Sound too good to be true, or perhaps a little too “new-ageish?” Lucid dreaming is very real and very possible, and there are many practical and down-to-Earth reasons to experiment with lucid dreams. Are you a little apprehensive over the idea of controlling your dreams, for various reasons? You can also use components of lucid dreaming to simply aid in dream recall, to provide you with more of an opportunity to deeply explore your dreams, and to even help increase the chances of you dreaming about things that you’d like to dream about—without having control. Regardless, we are getting ahead of ourselves here. A good place to start is with a more complete explanation of just what constitutes lucid dreaming.

Yes, because it's in your mind you are the one deciding what's in your dreams, in partnership with your subconscious mind that is trying to think about things that are worrying you and need to be worked out. If you can balance these and find yourself wanting to believe you can control your dream when you're in it, then you will be able to. Also you can plant seeds for the dream by reading a book about what you want to dream of, or listening to music related to what you want to dream of, or by simply picturing it as you fall asleep. Though if you do not feel like you're in control in your awake time then it will be unlikely that you will feel in control in your dream time.

Well...

Here's a link to a few good ideas... [1]

Never thought about it much myself...only had one dream in my entire life where I knew I was dreaming (I used the knowledge to dream I was flying - weird, 'cause I'm DEATHLY afraid of heights), and I'm not a young person.

And as far as what you can do with what you dream:

"... [James] Cameron still maintains to this day that the Terminator was his original concept. He claims that the concept of the Terminator came to him in a dream; furthermore, he states that in his original vision, the Terminator was a small, unremarkable man (as opposed to the large, muscular appearance of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger). This would allow the Terminator even greater ability to conceal itself among the human population. Only when Schwarzenegger, who had originally auditioned for the role of Reese, was cast as the Terminator instead did this concept begin to change." [2]

So be careful what you choose to dream...

Hope this helps...

Meditate before you go to sleep. Focus on the thing you wish to dream of while you meditate.

I've experimented with meditating with sleep deprivation. Feels like nirvana and is very interesting. Just don't do it a lot.

I can't control the beginning of my dreams, but once I'm in them I can control where I go, what I do, and how I percieve it. If there is something that is very scary, I remind myself in the dream that it isn't real, and can wake myself up if I need to.
You can also repeat to yourself what it is you want to dream about... it works for me sometimes... not always.
It is possible though, keep working at it!
Good Luck!

Simply state to yourself that you wish to influence your dreams on a conscious level. State it several times emphatically. Meditation can help you achieve this as well.

there are a number of stuff that impact targets. Your reviews in the process the day, previous reviews, what you're thinking approximately once you circulate to mattress, plans for the following day or week, month, and so on.

one guy told me that if you drink a tablespoon of arrowroot powder in a tea and burn jasmine incense, that it'll induce lucid dreams.

Sounds a bit folky, but I'd try it
