I have shown him the different sites that prove that the carseat we have for our son is not safe, yet he refuses to buy another one. He just says that I shouldn't believe everything I read. I'm so upset about this because I feel like every time we put him in the car in that seat we're endangering his safety and not doing our job as parents to do whatever we can to protect our baby. How can I get through to him and make him understand that no amount of money should prevent us from protecting our child the best we possibly can?
We've just had a huge fight about this and I told him that our baby is NOT riding in that carseat again, and all he said was "Yea, okay" I feel like he doesn't even care whether our son is safe or not!

Yeah, we're married, we share a bank acct., and we can afford it, but he's just stubborn and refused to believe that these reports are accurate. His reasoning is "well why would the hospital give them out" (they gave the evenflo discovery [same model, similar style as ours] to some people we know)

(I just noticed none of the other posters are familiar with the recent study to which you are referring.)
Well, sometimes these studies are skewed, but in your case he needs to take it seriously. The Evenflo carseat did so poorly, the worst of all, and they are recommending a complete product recall.
Either he can get a new carseat now, or feel like a total fool when they're recalled in a couple of weeks.

The best way to tell is search enenflo discovery recall because I do not know the model of your car seat that is all the advice I can give you. However if there is a recall on the car seat, you should get in touch with them to have your car seat replaced. Good luck and about your husband saying well why would they hand them out if they are not safe. Obviously they would not have handed them out if they thought they were unsafe hence a recall after injuries or death of a child. How would the hospital be able to predict that the car seats were unsafe, they are donated to the hospital from the manufacturer.

I agree with the last post....you could find out the local police that do check your car seat whether it has been properly installed or not. Some will charge you but some are free. I just heard today on the news about car sear safety, and was surprised many of them were not passed the government test. Maybe this is the best time to go get the info from your community where you could get it check by police or the expert.

Ok, where's the problem?
If the car seat hasn't been in an accident and the straps go over the babys shoulders and snap shut inbetween the babys legs.
And its snug on the baby, NOT tight.
And when you put it in the car you can fit the car seat belt tight on it, so the carseat don't move around...
Then you shouldn't have a problem..
The car seat should be safe.
If it does this and you still don't feel right about it.
Then go buy one that you like...

honestly the manufactuers of most carseats do a recall about every six months because someone decides there is some other kind of trinket or a new way to fall out of a car that has never happened so sweety dont give them more of your money your baby will be fine and you just need to breath and not try to protect your child from everything as long as you are doing things from YOUR mind and heart your child will be fine.

well sister-girl he must haven't watch enough of the news theses days on how the stress the proper way a Minor child is suppose to be in a car-seat and the proper way that the car-seat is suppose to go in your car. Well here is what you do have somebody to come over and watch the kids for a little while and drag his *** to public safety with the old car-seat and see what they say about it. Last but not least mommas knows whats safe and what is not safe their child

2 things.. one, when I was a baby.. car seats were not even in most stores.. much less a law. I rode on my parents lap... on the front seat.. and when older I hopped into the back of the pickup... so that may be where he is coming from possilbely, especially if he was raised on a farm...
The second thing is that it is important to you.. so does he not care about what is importnatn to you. Geez, I would spend hundred bucks on something that was so importnatn to my man... especially if he felt something was so serious... just becuase it woudl be important to him, I would want him to know that makes it a priority to me... I don't get why is not concerned about your feelings and your proireites and controlling the money for what HE thinks is importnat... I don't get that

I to have apparently one of the worst car seats and tomorrow I will be out buying a new one..You can`t put a price on your child's safety..If he won`t go buy one then you should go and do it, or maybe ask your parents to help you...Even if it is hyped up more form the media, I still don`t want to take a chance on risking his well being or his life for that matter...Please do whatever it takes to get your bf/hubby to see it`s not worth the risk!!!

I can see both sides of this. On one hand, I feel like this is over-hyped by the media. On the other hand, I have 2 kids so I'm a mother. I also want my children to be as safe as possible in the car. Just try not to fight about it. Talk. Talk. Talk.

Many fire departments offer child seat safety inspections. Find out when there is one in your area and "stop by" there during an outing with him and your child. Have the fire department inspect your car seat and let them be the ones to teach, since he isn't listening to you. If there isn't one any time soon, perhaps you can contact your local fire department and request a special inspection. Explain your situation to them and I bet that they will help you out. I am a mother and I understand how it feels when you think your child is in danger.
