Well... before you start changing the BIOS...

Are you absolutely sure that this is the problem preventing you from loading XP....

Tinkering with the PC BIOS is an advanced procedure and can trash your PC...

If you must... first find what version your bios is....
Web over to the intel web site and navigate to the bios update area...download the update and note what version you are upgrading too.
Some Bios need a software program to update, usually available to download right along with the bios files.

If there is an A: drive.
It is best to create a book disk (you can create at another PC)
Download the BIOS files
Boot the system with the Boot Disk, Swap floopies
execute the BIOS files.... Do Nothing elses.....

When the systems tells you... reboot....
After rebooting you'll need to setup the bios (clock, booting sequence, etc..)

If no floopy, is there a system already on the PC...
Note where you put the BIOS file(s) Reboot
Press F8 as soon as you can...
A DOS tye menu will appear and the "should" be a "command line" select it ... you "should" get a C: prompt... load the files...

If no floopy...no system....
Easiest... crack the case open, get a floopy drive installed. boot the system with book disk as stated above..
Harder... create a bootable CD with the files on it,
change the BIOS setting to boot CD 1st.
load CD and runb the files...

Anywho that's what i would first do.

Hope this helps

The Intel 440 is a very old chipset, you may try the motherboard manufacturer website to see if there is a Bios update. To update the Bios, you usually need a floppy with the boot file. The motherboard manufacturer website will have the how to's.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
