My daughter is 4 months old and weights only 9 pounds, should I be concern? If yes, any ideas that can help me get her gaining weight?

You should contact your child's pediatrition for a better supplimental formula to use to help the baby gain weight. In babies, you have to be very careful what you feed them because their little systems are so sensitive. Your child should be seeing a pediatrician on a regular basis...if your practitioner isnt concerned...perhaps its time to choose another one. Or if you cannot afford a pediatrician (and dont be embarrased if you cant) go to your local health department, and contact the local WIC (women, infants, and childred) they have nutritionists on hand to help you with those problems, as well as help you to get the correct type of formula to help your baby.

I think that dangerous low weight had other symptoms too - listless, no appetitite, a grayish complexion. My second child was a tiny peanut - and some people thought I should give her pediasure, but I didn't and she has always been pink and happy and healthy.

Having said that, some babies are hungrier than others and some can start some foods a bit early - like pears or very thin barley cereal. I would get a jar of pears and see what she says. If she wants it and does well with it, I say go for it. My older child started food a bit on the early side too.

Peace!

PS - Some babies do better with Goat milk instead of formula. We used the Meyenberger packets and mixed it full strength and then dilluted it with equal parts warm water when putting it in a bottle (then once she started on solids, less dillution).

Consult your pediatrician for your concerns. My son was born 9 lbs 4 ounces, but he only gained about one pound every month. At first a nurse actually accused me of not feeding him, which was false since all that kid did was eat. The doctor, however, was able to see the truth that it was the normal weight gain for my son. He has a very high metabolism. He is very healthy and normal, and was born big because I just have big babies.

You still should talk to your doctor, because every baby is different, and if there is a problem they will be the best person to help you.

my daughter does not gain much either, but she is healthy and happy, now 15 and half months with 21 pounds only. She was born with 6 pounds and 12 oz. She has a good metabolism, that is why she won't gain much. As long she is healthy and happy and get OK by the doctor, I would not be worry about it. BTW, I always feed her with rice, tofu, meat and vegies or eggs.....all of them are fully protein and carbohydrate.

It depends...has she put on weight since she was born? Not all babies grow at the same rate. If she is happy and healthy then size is really not an issue. My son was born premmie...just over 2 pound. When he got home, 12 weeks later, he was still only 4 pound. He is nearly 6, still small, but healthy and happy. Fat babies are not always the healthiest

Yes you should be very concerned. Your baby is very underweight. That weight is for an infant of 2 weeks old. Does your baby have a pediatrician that she sees? You need to take her to find out what is wrong. Here is a site that can possibly help you with your concerns.

If your baby is 4 months and your doctor says it is ok, you can introduce baby cereals and stage 1 fruits and veggies.
Make sure baby is getting enough to eat and drink. It is important for brain development.

Your doctor should tell you if your baby's weight is of concern. It does sound a little low...but I am not your baby's doctor.

No. I will not have a baby who screams. If so I will hand her off to her grandparents.
