Can the President of the United States dismiss or "fire" the Vice President? Technically, the President chooses his VP and the people vote them both in. Lame question... I know! haha

No. The prez cannot fire the VP. Resignation or impeachment are the only ways of removing the VP. Currently the question remains, who is the Prez and who is the VP?

No!!! Elected officials whether thy are the Vice President or a City Mayor, or even a Dog Catcher, if elected by the people can only be removed from office by either Impeachment (charged and convicted of a Criminal Offense. Usually a Felony) or recalled. (the public secures enough names on a ballot to call for a new election.

Bush would ask for and receive Cheney's resignation; since he serves at the pleasure of the president.

Edit: Nixon's VP, Spiro Agnew, is most famous for his resignation in 1973 after he was charged with the crime of tax evasion.

He cannot actually fire the VP, but like any boss he can strongly suggest they resign and do his best to make them miserable until they do.
