The internet could be an example of anarchy.

To my simplistic knowledge of Anarchism, this would involve large groups of people living in communities without any leadership hierarchies whatsoever – no military, economic, or governmental organizations would exist except those democratically assembled by the people to meet certain goals over a certain period of time. Likely the only way this could work is the assembly of people into small organized communes that would then trade with each other (I do believe Anarchists differ on whether there should be a form of “money” or not, and I'm not sure how property would work since a maxim of Anarchism is that “property is theft”). Power struggles would be presumably kept in check by an informed populace who would all unite against anyone seeking to obtain any power over other at all (an anathema to free people in an Anarchist society).

The biggest problem with this is that it might not work! It seems a little pie in the sky. But assuming it would work, I think the biggest problem would be economic. Despite whatever evil created, capitalism, as well as planned economies, and mixed economies, have a lot of utility in terms producing things and creating much of what we think of as material “wealth”; in a simple barter based economy you would not have that, so society would look a lot different and would arguably be a little more crude.

People who talk of Anarchy do not truly understand it's consequences. The total breakdown of society seen in after Hurricane Katrina would be an example of this.

Let me give you an example:

Suppose that tomorrow all government broke down. Lets suppose that your neighbor is not a nice person. He always looked over at your spouse in an odd way. Today he knows that there are no police, and therefore, no law. He takes his gun out and knocks on your door. He blows off the lock when you refuse to open it, shoots you and takes your wife as his own. He also takes all your belongings as they are now his via conquest.
Sucks to be you, right?
Well Anarchy is like that, the strongest and most willing to take would do quite well. Everyone else would be utterly miserable.

Unfortunatly, humanity can't truely take care of itself. People get greedy and such. Gangs and Power hungry groups would be in control and would make the decisions. Ordinary people would have very little decision in their lives and would have a very difficult time living in chaos.
