Hey Toots....
That's not called "police state" it's called "national security". If someone in your town has involvement in terrorism and they can find it through wire taps/ internet actvities/ mail search- wouldn't you want them to do that?
To me I think... if big brother wants to see what roads I drive- what e-mail I send- who I talk to... I don't care BECAUSE I AM NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG.
It's generally people who are in the habbit of breaking "some kind of law" who have issue with the whole thing.
Seriously- there are key words they look for. Npt like you are sitting on the phone talking about a date and they are gonna listen to that boring stuff.

What do you prefer? Do you want the terrorists to plot plans through the mail, and then bomb this country and reduce it to smithereens and ruin the economy so that you can end up without job and no food, and die of hunger.

Or you want him to open the mail?

What do you think he's going to find out by reading your mails which does nothing but whining..??? No one is going to get any benefit out of that.

Did you forget what happend to our economy because of 911? Do you have any clue what will happen if such an incident happens again ?

Freedom doesn't come free. It costs..and the price is going to be higher, as long as the terrorists are pissed at us.

Do you want this country to end up like south african war lord states?

People don't realize the freedom, until they lose it.

I think people who think like this should end up in a terrorist occupied third world country for a while and then they will realize the freedom and stubborness they enjoy here in this country.

It isn't every old citizen's mail, this is for our protection and they will only do this if they are extremely concerned about us being involved with terrorism. (If we have made phone calls to the Middle East or had any contact with the middle east.) Our nation is the most free nation in the world so be happy your living in it and the Government cares enough about your safety that they would check every envelope that passes through the post office just to protect you. But keep in mind that it is very rare that they will do this.

they have always been about to open our mail. Now they just dont need a warrant. And yes it is a horrible thing. There are other ways to fight terrorism. Much more effective ways. By the way our forefathers knew the dangers of the "if you are not hiding anything you wont mind us searching your home" mentality. Its why we have this wonderful thing called the Bill of Rights which, in talking to many a republican, we should revoke.

I think right now it a nanny state, with big brother pushing us around.
A police state would be like the Nazi SS and show us your papers , not please, now.

Don't give up your rights, learn your rights, read the constitution, It was written for everyone to understand, not just lawmakers to twist and interpret .

My theory on this is.....they wont just open "anybodys mail" I am a white american that has lived here along with my family for decades....I am not threatened by them opening my mail bc I am not even close to them ever suspecting me to be a terrorist. If this means keeping our country safer...then by all means...open mail...

You need to find out more details about this. They claim it's something that's in the law already.

I believe that has been happening for a while here in Australia, especially for drugs etc.

Honestly i don't see a problem with it. If it will keep us safe from harm then i am all for it.
