in statistics; n= the number of trials or subjects in the sample population. For example, if you do an experiment to check that the proper weight is achieved in filling potato chip bags at a factory, you would not weigh every bag of chips off the production line. Instead, you would randomly sample , lets say 50 bags. Therefore n=50.
Then, through statistical procedures and using the normal probability distribution, the small sample n, with a degree of certainty, will give an estimation of big N, or total population, more simply known as population N
i hope this helps

N is usually an integer and is, in most cases, used to desribe an infinite amount. N is an undefinable number as infinity is as well. N does not have a value UNLESS used in place of x. Such as the problem f(n)=2n^2 + n - 2. In such a problem, n has a definable value but is not used very often to substitute a value of x. You will most likely only find n a substitute of x if you are beginning algebra and several letters are used as learning tools.
But for the most part, n has no definable value and is used to represent the number infinity either positive or negative.

the value of n depends, n is just a variable, if you don't have an equasion, or a set number for n, then it's just a variable (letter representing a random number) but, if you have an equasion, you can solve for n. EX:
n / 5 = 18, to solve this multiply both sides of the equal sign by 5, to get n alone on one side it would look like this:
n=90, you can also have more complicates ones like:
n/5*6-(5+7), which is the same but takes more steps, just try to do stuff to get n alone, but remember IF YOU DO SOMETHING TO ONE SIDE OF THE = SIGN, YOU HAVE TO DO IT TO THE OTHER.

Well, the most common variables are a, b, c, n, x, y, and z.
These, even n and other letters, have any value.
When put in an equation, n must complete the equation.
Like 6n=48. n=8 in this case.
With no equals sign, n can mean anything.
Like: Evaluate 4n-2n^2 if n=4.
So, that would be 16-64=-48.

In algebra, n is a variable. This could be used in an equation or in an expression (in which there is no equals sign).
In other words, n does not have a specified numeric value.
However, e ~ 2.71... and i = sqrt (-1). I believe there are others, but those are the main two that are not typically used as variables.

Interesting question.
It is usually an integer.
Assign any value you want to it.

Whatever you would like it to be. How about you lucky number?
Or your phone number. or your house number. It can represent any number you choose.
